Full disclosure: I have never eaten here sober. Come 2am, this place is HEAVING with drunk college students. And I mean H E A V I N G. It usually takes like 20 minutes to get your food. I usually got something with eggplant, mushrooms, spinach and a side of Hot sauce. They have an assload of cheese in them, and the crust is crispy and thin. It's cheap by regards to NYC standards (as I've become accustomed to) but probably a little pricey by the SC norm. Not sure how this is sober, but drunk, it soaks up the booze a lot better than Canyon. (Anyone who knows me knows exactly how I feel about Canyon pizza...)

This place is crazy. They have such a large selection of ingredients for calzones. Very hard to decide which one you want. Once you choose, they make it fresh for you. Pretty good stuff, and reasonably priced, especially if you are on a college budget.

I've had calzones from all around the country and without a doubt my favorite spot is DP Dough. These calzones literally sustained me through my college years. Great prices, great tasting. My favorite: The Cheeseburger.

Like another reviewer said, this is pretty good drunk food, but also pretty good sober food. The only downside is it's a little expensive compared to other drunk foods around, but likely just because it tastes better. I'm blessed enough to live above this place so I order here a lot on recovery Sundays.

Great drunk food. The calzones are substantial and filling. I've had a few "zones" that had too much cheese and were frankly just kind of bland. I've had others that provided a nice mixture of taste and flavor. Honestly I feel like it's a mixed bag with DP Dough depending on what you order and on who makes it. If you've had a night out and are looking for some really filling food DP Dough hits the spot. Be aware that they are nutritionally atrocious, and are in no way healthy. They don't have the nutritional information available, but I imagine with the amount of cheese and dough you can expect to eat a couple days worth of fat and carbs.

DP dough has a great selection of calzones for a good price. I prefer to have takeout rather than eat there since it's not the best-looking place inside. But I have never been disappointed with their food! The 'zones are huge enough for two meals, I always get the one with tomatoes and pesto - yum!

It is a very cozy place, it is small, and clean. As soon as I entered the place I felt the sweet/yummy smell of the mozzarella cheese. If you like crunchy stuff, the best option is a calzone in this place. They are really tasty. I would add a little bit more of chicken because it was a "parmesan chicken calzone". I definitely will come back, I will bring my family and I will make them eat a calzone. The sauce on a side has a sweet taste that I loved, but I can tell is not real, but, anyways, you can always take your calzone to go and prepare your own sauce at home. Best calzone ever!
(5)
Frank L.
Cool concept. They have a bunch of diff calzones but some of them are very similar to each other. Beyond that, the calzone was just ok. It was definitely cheesy but not saucy enough. I also ran out of marinara sauce halfway between the 2nd half of the calzone. Decent price for 6 bux tho. Only thing that could beat that is a subway sandwich or sumthin...

I probably ordered from this spot more than any other while I was in State College...unlike a pizza, where you would have to find one solution to please 3 people or whatever, here everyone could get their own 'zone. I don't even know if they sold anything else, because all I ever ordered were calzones...and I only ever got delivery. To this day I still don't know where the actual business is located. Despite the pictures I am not entirely sure it really exists. Prices were very reasonable, portions just right, and always filling. Just always seemed to hit the spot, and though I can't imagine I'd like it as much today I shall grant 4 stars for the sake of posterity.

So many delicious options to choose from when you order. I suggest the chicken and bacon calzone :) DP Dough is always pristine! You can tell they pride themselves on being sanitary/clean. When calling for delivery, is it always delivered fast and still hot. No complaints here!

The calzone itself isn't the problem. The slow inconsiderate service is the problem. I've ordered from here four times, and each time they take over an hour to get to me,l despite the fact that I live a 5 minute drive from the store. Also because they insist on putting the ice cold sodas in the bag with the 'zone, then stacking the bags on top of each other, each calzone gets its only little mini fridge from sodas on top and on bottom. Thus, they arrive stone cold, the cheese so cold its solid. I then end up having to nuke it which kills the crust texture. They also always ignore our request to ring the doorbell and so we don't always hear them knock (it's a two story unit we live in) then they have the gall to berate us for their inability to clearly read the order. I will try ONE more time on a non-football weekend and if its the same kind of service, I'll look elsewhere for my home pizza fix.

I literally just got take out and my calzone wasn't cooked the whole way through (the cheese wasn't even melted) and the chicken in it tastes like high school chicken patty meat. The service wasn't very friendly either. So disappointed :(

Its all about the calzone. We got 3 different calzones: mac & cheese, bbq and chicken parm. They were good, but not amazing. I liked the sauce for dipping. The servers were not the friendliest. For us, the service was acceptable. It just felt like we were treated like a cog on a wheel. The price point was acceptable. If I had a craving for a calzone and I was in State College, this is the place I would go.

I hate giving reviews based on service, cause all in all it should be about the food right? But anyways, this place has amazing calzones. They just are kinda disorganized. Messed up my order with spinach and buff chicken calzones. Never got the buff chicken one, was REALLY looking forward to it. But I get it, they're dealing with drunk college kids all night, so I'll let that go. Plus I think they thought I was another drunk college kid with the way they were towards me (SO RUDE) but noooo I was just an older sibling visiting. Would've given 3/4 cause really it was good. Maybe next time...

Huge selection of ingredients to custom create your zone of choice. They make it right there in front if you to guarantee a fresh and crispy calzone. Delivery is often quick, I don't recommend eating there.

I'm a Texan in town for the Penn State recruitment fair. I wanted an easy, delivery dinner after a long day that still allowed for a taste of the local food. The price was reasonable and the service was fine. However, the guy dropped it off (after I'd already given a nice tip via credit cars) and he forgot part of the order. I think he almost expected me to tell him to forget about it, but I let him bring me back the remaining part that I already paid for. By the time he returned, the rest of my food was cold. It did all taste fine and was larger than I expected though. I was both pleasantly surprised and disappointed by my calzone. I got on that had ranch inside and, being a huge ranch junkie, I ordered an extra ranch on the side as well. However, it was pointless to order the side ranch bc there was definitely enough inside. The disappointment comes w/ the other side. The calzone I ordered was supposed to come w/ a side of marinara, but that never got to me. The calzone was decent as is, but the marinara on the side would've made such a substantial difference that I wasn't able to finish it without it to balance out the flavors.

Run FAR away!!!! I never give bad reviews, but I feel I should share how the manager here was EXTREMELY, baffling rude when I called the restaurant several months ago. Never in my life have I been disrespected so viciously by a complete stranger. I had placed an online order for 4 calzones and made an error in one's toppings (important mistake due to a food allergy), so I immediately called to ask for the small adjustment literally 5-10 seconds after placing the order, apologizing for my request- and the man who answered the phone interrupted me mid-sentence to say (direct quote): "Too bad! They're in the oven." And promptly hung up on me. First of all, surely it is not humanly possible to make 4 unique calzones and bake them in a 5-second window. So that was clearly bull. But regardless, I was not even given the most basic, low-level common courtesy to speak. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I called back to try once again to rectify my order. He answered the phone with, "Listen, I don't give a shit. They're coming as-is and you have to pay for them. Deal with it" And hung up on me, again. Let me be clear in saying I was in NO way being abrasive or deserving of this foul reaction. By this point I was in total awe of the worker's lack of respect. I called back a final time to ask to speak to a manager, and to cancel my order, and he laughed, barking that he WAS the manager, and then straight up refused to cancel my order, despite it not yet being out for delivery. The communication concluded with a string of "F-you's" and obscenities out of HIS mouth at one very appalled and astounded paying customer. This treatment was entirely unprovoked and COMPLETELY unacceptable. I know this is a college town, but that does nothing to rectify the level of scummy service being provided by DP Dough in State College. Who do they think they are??? Avoid!!!

The worst customer service I've experienced in my life. Ordered delivery and the 'manager' was rude and when I tried to cancel three minutes later he said order was being delivered already when he initially said it was going to take 45 minutes. He cursed, lied, and probably also charged my credit card which I have to now handle. When I asked for his name he refused to give it to me. I may have called at a busy time but that is never an excuse to be treated that way.

Before today I would probably have given DP Dough a 4/5 stars because I absolutely love this one calzone that I customize myself. I always would get marinara on the inside and it made the calzone that much better. There have been a couple of times that they would mess up my order but I would overlook these things. However, today I called in and the person on the phone told me they couldn't put the marinara on the inside. This is peculiar because I have ordered this at least 20 times and in fact ordered it a week ago. The man was so rude to me and to top it all off he said he was one of the higher ups in the company. Worst customer experience ever. He should be fired and they should put their customers first.

It's a delivery calzone place. the delivery time is standard but be careful when ordering extra sauces because 8 times out of 10 you won't get them.

The owner here is complete scum. I watched him get into a shoving match with a customer for wanting to use the restroom after the restaurant had just closed. He kicked us out of the restaurant and made us all wait in the cold for our food because they were suddenly "closed", funny how he was okay with us ordering after closing, just not waiting for our order. Then one guy comes inside to use the restroom and the owner immediately starts pushing him out of the door and yelling obscenities. It was quite the scene.. We obviously didn't stay to pick up our meal. Anyone who treats the customer like that deserves to have the place shut down. And apparently this is normal! Everyone I've told has nothing but terrible stories to reply with about this guy, there's even a rumor that he punched a girl in the face!!! Avoid this place like the plague. No pizza is worth such degrading customer service.

If you are near Penn State University and you want some awesome calzone's this is your place to go!! Their menu is HUGE! its reasonably priced and your meal will be so filling. After a long night of drinking this is the best place for lunch hands down.

It was definitely worth trying and as they claim it really is a good "pizza alternative." The dough was really good and tasted fresh. I had the End Zone, basically a cheesesteak with mozzarella in a calzone. I wasn't blown away but I'm glad I tried it, as that was my first one. The pizza sauce was a great complement. I ate in and they have two tvs. Although it was generally loud inside, there are enough tables to sit comfortably.

These are mini calzones basically. Maybe my description isn't quite as helpful, but its certainly a place to try! The sad part is you will always want more than one, and they have a variety of combinations to choose from. Agreed with another reviewer, sometimes it can be a hit or miss, depending on who is working/cooking that day. Nighttime might be the best time to grab one because many college students are ordering them late at night. Recommendation: Do Take Out

Oh, D.P. Dough. I have been eating at this place since I was probably in kindergarten, and it has since become my favorite late-night drunk food. But not the kind of drunk food that you regret in the morning and would NEVER touch sober. The kind that is satiating and leaves you leftovers for breakfast at 1pm the next day. I order the same thing every time I go here (no, I haven't changed my order since I was a kid): Strike Zone (breaded eggplant, spinach, and cheese) because who doesn't want a pizza crust stuffed with eggplant parm? and cheesesticks, which is basically a personal pizza with ranch where the tomato sauce should be and tomato sauce where the ranch should be. Genius, and yes, it really does make that much of a difference. Seriously, where else can you get good food in State College after 2am? Let me know if you have an answer...but for now I'm declaring D.P. Dough the king of Penn State drunk food.

Plain Italian-fare, we ordered calzones to go one night. While we were waiting, we noticed that the inside of their place is decorated with some amusing murals. Staff were friendly and prices weren't out of this world. The calzones were warm and tasty, nothing special, just right.

Out of all the things I remember from starting at Penn State, I remember DP. We were great friends, I gave money, DP gave me delicious food. Until one day. One day DP started cutting back on fillings. I ordered double meat, which fixed the problem for awhile. Then DP raised the prices. I ordered less, but still ordered. Finally, DP began mixing up orders. It was the last straw. If I were to rate DP on how it was in 2005, it would easily get a 4-5. With how it is now, I give it a two merely on the fact it's edible and probably won't kill you.

Went back to Penn State last weekend, not for the blue-white game, but for DP Dough. This is the #1 thing I miss from Penn State, b/c I can't get anything like this around. Unfortunately, prices have gone up (I believe it was $6.13 per calzone, incl. taxes), but I happily didn't see a change in quality. I would love to try different 'zones, but I always end up getting the Target zone (breaded chicken, mozzerella & american cheese and ranch dressing). All calzones come with a dipping sauce; you can choose between marinara, ranch, blue cheese, honey mustard and I think hot sauce. I like the marinara b/c it's not too sweet or chunky. FYI- dp dough moved from out by Giant to the corner of Beaver Ave. and Garner St.. You need to come from Sowers Street to get in/out of the parking lot in front of the store.

When I was a freshman at URI, I remembered this place being much better. Now as a grad student, I came back here hoping to relive my dp dough college experience. No joke, the fact that there was a dp dough in State College was a factor when choosing my school. I don't know if I just outgrew dp dough or if it was better at URI. I was a bit let down. There was less filling, the calzone was overcooked and it was a bit dry. At first I thought it was an off day but I gave them several more opportunities but to no avail, it just wasn't the same. Oh well, thanks for the memories...

This one of the only food items I miss from State College. I LOVE DP Dough. I've eaten in, picked up, and gotten delivery from DP Dough probably close to 20 times while I was a student. I can only recall 2 incidents: they misheard my order, which was promptly replaced, and the second was the dough on one of my was not cooked very well. Other than that, this place is EXCELLENT. Drop Zone is my favorite, but I would mix it up with Roni, Italian, and Parking. Oh DP Dough, how I miss you.

Quality...uh, so-so. Does it hit the spot? Absolutely!!. A huge variety, the price is right and what else is there to say. Perfect for a town like this, a required essential.

The calzone is, in my opinion, one of mankind's greatest creations. It holds all the benefits of its cousin, Pizza, but without all the drawbacks - such as a huge box. I believe that D.P. Dough is an excellent Calzone restaurant - the experience eating there is pleasurable from start to finish. Whether you order take out or sit down inside with your friends, the menu is very straight forward and simple. The Menu is made up entirely of calzones, simply listing what is inside each calzone. The pricing is acceptable - each calzone is about $7, so it's definitely not a budget choice for college students, but I believe that it is worth it. For college students, though, they do accept Lion cash, which I view as a major positive. The five minute wait for your calzone gives you time to look around the restaurant. The facilities are clean, and posters with humorous quotes line the walls, giving you something to read if you don't like what's airing on the TV. The Calzone itself was simply perfect. The cheese is perfect - it won't burn your mouth, but it's also very gooey. The pulled pork inside my calzone was also good - it wasn't amazing, but the rest of the calzone was simply fantastic. If there was one problem I had at D.P. Dough, it would be the BBQ sauce. I'm no BBQ connoisseur, but the sauce was simply not up to par with my expectations. However, most calzones come with marinara sauce, so I view this as a minor issue. Overall, my experience at D.P. Dough was amazing. The only two problems I had were with some of the BBQ components of the calzone - but it's hard to find good BBQ up north anyways, so I personally forgive that offense. If you ever feel like having Pizza but don't have a group of people to eat it with, try D.P. Dough.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Yummy calazones and pizzas. Super fast service and great prices. Their dough and topping combos are excellent.

Great Calzones and tons of different kinds to choose from - and if you cant choose from the 20+ options they have - make your own. Reasonably priced and convenient! They deliver too!

Another great place to go if you're looking for a quick meal, or for delivery. Calzones a very tasty, and come in a variety of options. You can even customize your own. Very convenient.

I eat here everytime I'm in State College. It's good, cheap college food. Open late, perfect for drunk eating. Plenty of options at this place.

Dough.
